What are “timeless” closets? In my book, timeless closets contain unique items that can withstand the test of time. Now, not every item can be timeless and this is where I will make a few distinctions. Timeless pieces have 3 main characteristics:
- they keep their vibrant colors
- they maintain structure (the fabric is not worn and the fit is still right)
- we can still easily incorporate them into contemporary styles
Every styling session that I do will also focus on in-depth wardrobe analysis and this is where we decide to keep certain items and to let go of others.
Now, I recently met another amazing woman who is proof that timeless closets can work and are such a treasure to own.
A creative person, with a unique energy, she loves individually beautiful items and all that has a retro chic vibe. She wanted to better define her style and adapt her wardrobe to her new hair color.
I first start by getting to know what you want from this experience and then do my homework. I work on your body shape, your colors and finish up by defining your current style which is a mix between what you want to change and what you can achieve with the items you already own.
The best part is when we “get down to business” as I like to say, because, no presentation can match reality! That moment when I get to “meet” your closet and see what we can work with, is really amazing! Ilinca has many wonderful items but like many of you, can’t visualize how certain items can be mixed to bring out 3 things:
- your new style
- your body shape
- your colors
What I also do is try to give you, for additional inspiration, an example of a celeb you look like. Either as a color season or someone you have a similar body shape with. Rarely both but in this case it was also a match.
Now Ilinca looks sooo much like Cate Blanchett and she even has a very retro, sophisticated vibe. She also likes to switch her hair color from blonde to red much like the actress. When you change your hair color, even though your color season remains the same, your color palette changes and you can no longer use certain colors, especially when you are a red-head. So you have to adapt your new contrast to your wardrobe.
I was happy to find accessories that I could work with when creating certain looks and this makes the whole process complete. This is because, to create a look, we can’t only focus on clothes! We must complete the look with:
- the right shoes
- the right bag
- the right accessories (jewelry, belts, headbands etc)
- the right hairstyle
- the right make up
All of these elements must work together to complete a look and once you get the hang of creating your looks by checking the above, you will be able to save time and money!
During a 3+ hour styling session, I try to cover all these small details that make up the big picture. And once you see the final result, you can start planning your own looks and making your timeless closet work for you.
